WINNER OF THE 2025 PULITZER PRIZE FOR HISTORY
Known for her transnational work on West African societies, the African diaspora, and Gullah culture, Dr. Edda Fields-Black sets out on a quest to discover her family history. In Combee, she delves into her ancestors’ participation in the Combahee River Raid led by Harriet Tubman during the Civil War. Combee is the first detailed account of one of the war’s most dramatic episodes and the central role the abolitionists played in it.

Dr. Edda Fields-Black will be in conversation with fellow Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Blight.
