A World of Jewish Culture Presents
PS 26 - The Kleztonians
From the Balkans to the Salt Marsh
Sun, May 31 at 2pm
The Kletztonian Quartet (75 min)
Philip Lipton on clarinet and bass clarinet, Nolan Tecklenburg on keyboard, Roman Peckard on bass, and Gino Castillo on percussion come together to form the Kleztonian Quartet. Featuring local musicians with dynamic music careers in the rich Charleston music scene, the quartet brings infectious energy and toe tapping melodies to this Piccolo Spoleto event. With Klezmer at it's core, expect to hear a variety of Eastern European countries represented. The Quartet's original compositions, with musical roots in the Balkan regions, are filled with improvisations that are so engaging that you won't be able to resist moving your body with the rhythm. The Kleztonians fuse Eastern European music with Hip-Hop, Jazz and Progressive Rock to create an inspiring experience for all listeners.
A World of Jewish Culture at Piccolo Spoleto
Inaugurated in 1998 as a joint project of the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston, in cooperation with the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, A World of Jewish Culture at Piccolo Spoleto has brought Jewish music, film, and celebration to Charleston every year since. This year’s series is sponsored by the Herzman-Fishman Fund and the Seltzer-Lovinger Endowment for Jewish Cultural Programming.
