Funky or Fresh: Homebrewing Competition Registration

Our home brewing competition is back!!! This time around, we're bringing back the Funky or Fresh theme so you'll have plenty of opportunities to get creative and get your beer brewed right here at Rusty Bull. Please read below for all the juicy details:

  • Competition Date: 4pm-7pm on March 19th 
  • Registration deadline: January 17th 
  • Beer submission deadline: March 12th 
  • Two categories to enter in:
    • Funky: Lacto-based sour, Gose’, Berliner
      • Soured using a Lacto culture or lactic acid
      • Can use any process you like, but when it’s brewed at brewery, it will be through a kettle sour process
      • No Brettanomyces beers
      • 5% or under
      • Light bodied mouth feel
    • Fresh: Wheat, Wit, Hefe, Summer, Cream, Blonde, Dark Mild
      • 5% or under
      • Light bodied mouth feel
  • 3 bottles per entry (must be turned in on or before March 12th)
    • May enter one beer per category
  • $10 fee per entry for home brewers – donated to Water Mission
  • You will be emailed a form – bring it in with your beer in a ziplock bag
    • No markings on your bottle or caps
  • Sponsored by Beer Engineer
    • 10% off supplies for your competition beer & a $50 Beer Engineer gift card to the winner
  • In addition to having your beer brewed at Rusty Bull (winners only), we're crafting up some custom tap handles for our winners - Best Funky, Best Fresh, People's Choice
  • A $10 donation to Water Mission will allow attendees to sample beers at the event
    • Homebrewers - we'd love for you to bring in your competition beer and any other beers you'd like to sample to attendees - this is not a requirement for entry but there will be a prize for the "People's Champ"
