On Mothers’ day weekend, Brook and Constant’s streamlined adaptation of Bizet’s masterpiece Carmen will be presented at the beautifully scenic Hanahan Amphitheater on the Goose Creek Reservoir. The production is conceived in the style of a 1930s radio drama, complete with narrators and a Foley sound effects artist.  Featuring vocalists from premier opera houses and a live orchestra conducted by Wojciech Milewski, you won’t want to miss this powerfully theatrical performance. Join us early for food trucks and drink concessions starting at 6pm.  Seating is “bring your own” or you can preorder chairs in our VIP socially distant squares.  A pre-show performance will be given by College of Charleston Opera and will feature excerpts of their recent presentation of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro conducted by Yuriy Bekker of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.

*This project was funded in part by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Program through their joint administration of the Lowcountry Quarterly Arts Grant Program and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC.*
