The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid with CPR/AED course teaches participants to recognize sudden illnesses, treat serious injury, and how to perform the lifesaving skills of CPR for adults, children, and infants with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED course teaches participants the lifesaving skills of CPR for adults, children, and infants; and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to someone that is suffering from cardiac arrest in a comfortable instructor-led program.

Course Description:  The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course teaches how to recognize and treat sudden illness and injury in Adults, Children, and Infants; how to provide CPR; and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator.

Course topics include:

  • Medical emergencies including allergic reactions, heart attacks, stroke, seizures, and diabetes
  • Injury management including bites and stings, bleeding control, and splinting
  • Environmental emergencies such as heat stroke and hypothermia
  • Relief of choking
  • CPR AED for adults, children, and infants

This course is specifically designed for those who have a duty to respond to an emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. It is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a cardiac emergency or serious life threatening emergency.

Intended Audience:  This course is intended for individuals who have a duty to respond to ill and injured individuals because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements such as nursing assistants, coaches, personal trainers, and industrial safety teams. This course is also appropriate for members of the community who want to be prepared in the event of a sudden illness or serious life threatening injury.

Certification:  Successful completion of this course results in an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certification card which is valid for 2 years from the date of the course.

Materials:  First aid materials, a pocket mask, and a 2 year American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certification card are included in this course. The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED student manual is recommended for this course and is sold separately. If you already own one or have access to one before, during, and after the class, you do not need to purchase one during registration.

Testing:  A skills exam is completed at the end of this program. Proficient demonstration of First Aid and CPR skills are required for certification.
